Physical Education
We believe that a high-quality physical education curriculum inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically demanding activities with full inclusion for every child. It should provide opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way that supports their health and fitness. Opportunities to compete in sport and other activities build character and help to embed values such as fairness, respect and a link to British Values. We want all of our children to thrive on success both as part of a team and as an individual, while also equipping them with the essential strategies, skills and attitudes needed to demonstrate great sportsmanship. We follow Development Matters 2021and the National Curriculum for Physical Education and use the programme Get Set 4 PE to support our planning, delivery and assessment of lessons.
All children in KS1 and KS2 are provided with 2 hours of curriculum PE time a week, plus opportunities to engage in extra-curricular PE and sport. In addition to this, we encourage active playtimes and active lunchtimes to ensure every child is getting their recommended 60 minutes of activity per day.
We are an active part of the Dove Valley Sports organisation with a number of other local schools. This enables our children to compete against other schools in a variety of sporting tournaments throughout the year. We also compete through the East Staffs School Sport Partnership which allows for a wider age range of children to compete in a variety of events including boccia, indoor canoeing, archery and dodgeball.
Through our Year 5 PE Crew, we are always keen to develop the children's ideas for sporting opportunities, with the designing their own intra school events providing every child an opportunity to compete for their school team.
