Safeguarding

Safeguarding is a term which is broader than child protection and relates to any action taken to promote the welfare of children and protect them from harm.

Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility.  It includes action against bullying, including cyber bullying and online safety, treating all children equally regardless of gender, ethnicity, disability, sexuality, or beliefs, preventing impairment of health and development, ensuring that all children are effectively cared for, and taking action to enable all children to achieve the best possible outcomes.

The Mosley Academy is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all its pupils and expects all staff, volunteers and visitors to share this commitment. All staff are trained  regularly in safeguarding, with some receiving a higher level of training as  the safeguarding leads. These members of staff are listed below, and can be contacted during school hours in person, via phone on 01283 247465, or via email to office@mos.jtmat.co.uk.

Safeguarding includes ensuring our children are safe from abuse and neglect, and are free from bullying. It also means they feel safe at school and know they can talk to a trusted adult in our school if they have a worry about home or at school. We are committed to giving our children the skills to keep safe at home and school and often invite visitors to support this.  We offer various channels of support within school, including Worry tins in all classrooms, HOPE sessions with a trained TA, positive play and many other support networks for children.  The voice of the child is key to our work in school.

We want our children to have the skills to challenge gender stereotypes and to recognise that abuse of any kind is never acceptable.

The teaching of online skills is an essential element of our curriculum and we give children the skills to keep safe online and to be able to deal with any incidences of bullying that may occur online. This is not only taught through our PSHE and RSHE scheme (Jigsaw) and our computing curriculum but also as an integral part of our safeguarding curriculum. We mark Internet Safety Day in February every year with a real focus on teaching children how to stay safe online and make sensible choices. Online safety teaching runs through our curriculum all  year round too.

As a school we recognise that safeguarding against radicalisation is no different from safeguarding against any other vulnerability. At The Mosley Academy all staff and visitors are expected to uphold and promote our core British Values. All staff receive Prevent training and a risk assessment is in place for this.
