Computing

At Mosley, our whole school aim is to embed computing in as many learning opportunities as possible. This provides our children with concrete experiences of when and how they can use digital media in different aspects of their lives. Through stimulating and challenging experiences children will continue to develop their love for learning and become confident and independent users of a range of software and hardware.

In the ever-changing digital world, we aim to provide all children with not only the skills to use the technology that exists today, but the life-long thinking skills and passion to continue to develop their love for computing through secondary school and beyond.

At Mosley, we predominately follow the Teach Computing scheme of learning for all of our lessons. We feel the scheme is well-structured, builds year upon year and covers topics in a mindful, child-friendly way. This is based on the National Curriculum.

Online Safety

Our Online Safety is taken extremely seriously, being covered in day to day tasks (such as logging onto TT Rockstars) through to stand alone Computing lessons.

The term 'online safety' encompasses an ever-growing number of different issues and we use the Education for a Connected World to support us with this. The framework breaks these down into eight aspects:

  1. Self-image and identity
  2. Online relationships
  3. Online reputation
  4. Online bullying
  5. Managing online information
  6. Health, wellbeing and lifestyle
  7. Privacy and security
  8. Copyright and ownership

We have distributed these different strands across each half term, to ensure each class is having in-depth online safety learning and for consistency.

Digital Leaders

As of September 2023, we now have 9 digital leaders in school, ranging from Year 4-6. These children help to organise and look after equipment, help provide Professional Development for staff and children.

Coding Club

Throughout Summer 2024, we ran a Coding Club - after school on Mondays. This club allowed children to take part in an area of computing they enjoy and would like more time to develop their skills in. During this club we explored Micro Bits and using blockcode to control them!
